Minimum Wage Law
Beginning January 1, 2025 - Guarantees a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour for workers 18 years of age and older. An employer where gratuities are paid to employee, may pay 60% of the minimum wage to its employees. Employers may apply for licenses to pay sub-minimum rates to learners and certain workers with physical and mental limitations. Overtime must be paid after 40 hour of work per week at time and one-half the regular rate.
NOTICE TO SHELTERED WORKSHOPS/EMPLOYERS OF DISABLED EMPLOYEES
On December 31, 2029, the Illinois Department of Labor will stop issuing and recognizing licenses to pay disabled workers less than the full minimum wage rate (also known as 14(c) certificates under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act). This multi-year phase out is intended to give employers time, resources, and technical assistance in making the transition toward expanded competitive, integrated employment, ensuring fair wages for people with disabilities and expanding economic independence and dignity in workplaces statewide.
