What Does A Permit Look Like?
2024 Permit to Operate is valid January 1 through December 31, 2024.
Each amusement ride and/or amusement attraction operating in the State of Illinois at an event open to the public must have a current Permit to Operate affixed to it. If you do not see the permit, ask the operator to see it before you get on the ride and/or attraction. If you do not see the permit, it may not have been approved for operation.
Any person who owns or operates an amusement ride or amusement attraction at an event open to the public without having obtained this permit to operate from the Illinois Department of Labor or who violates any order or rule issued by the Director or Board under the Amusement Rides and Attraction Safety Act (430 ILCS 85) is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. Each day shall constitute a separate and distinct offense (Section 2-15 of the Act).
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or rides and attractions without operating permits by calling the Illinois Department of Labor at (217) 557-3112 during normal business hours, or (217) 993-2941 after hours or on weekends.
